July 31, 2018:

I’ve got a bloody idea.

When a chunk of pages go by with flashy moves and humorous lines, the whole thing starts feeling a little bit safe. And then when doing the last page I was thinking to myself, “Whoa is making Hoodie’s mouth full of blood and terrifying stare too much?” And then I’m like wait, Manek you’ve already cut a hand off, that PG rating ship has sailed. So the idea is I think I’m going to try and keep red blood mostly for good guys. And use a variety of other icky fluid substances for monsters. Holding off on the red blood is also emotional, there are going to be a lot of difficult fights like this, if there’s green slime spilling everywhere that’s fun and gruesome, but when a “good guy” bleeds red, hopefully you’ll just feel extra bad.
