New scene new character alert:

There are 2 main ways of introducing new characters in stories. One way is to drop the audience right in with someone new and show something interesting about them, then later reveal how they tie back to the story and everyone else in it. Thrillers do this quite often because it keeps you guessing.

Just like real life though, most often we meet new people through people we already know. We met Meredith Wiser on page 26 through Miro and Vick, where she launched into a monologue about braised pork, and here we are on page 72 and she’s introducing us to the braised pork! I mean, to her husband, Terrin Wiser!
